The Rise of
“Thanyacha Maharaja”
A Humble Beginning Rooted in Devotion
Bal Mitra Ganeshotsav Mandal was founded with the purpose of fostering faith, cultural harmony, and community participation, beginning with simple yet powerful Satyanarayan Mahapuja gatherings.
Our HIStory
What started as a modest 5-day celebration soon became a grand community festival. The youth actively participated, and elders offered their guidance, creating a strong foundation of collective effort.
Over time, the festival gained popularity and scale. Renowned sculptors contributed to crafting the idol, and the celebrations began to include the following:
-
Cultural programs
-
Music and drama performances
-
Social awareness initiatives
By 1981–82, the festival had already begun attracting attention across Mumbai and Thane.
A defining moment came in 2001, during the Silver Jubilee year, when a magnificent 25-foot Ganesh idol was स्थापित (installed), making it one of the most iconic Ganesh idols in the region.
During a visit, respected Shiv Sena leader of Thane, the (late) Shri Dharmaveer Anand Dighe Saheb remarked:
“This idol is not just beautiful — it truly represents the Maharaja of Thane.”
—Dharmaveer Anand Dighe
Saheb
From that moment onward, the Ganpati was lovingly known as “THANYACHA MAHARAJA”—a name that continues to resonate with millions of devotees.
